FAIRFAX, Calif. – The Nevada men's golf team concluded its run at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational with an 11
th place finish in the 15-team field.
The Wolf Pack posted its best team round of the tournament on the final day, carding a 5-under team score of 279. That coupled with a 285 and 280 on Monday put the Pack at 8-under par for the tournament and in 11
th place, just two shots out of picking up a top 10. Pepperdine ran away with the team title, finishing at 43-under par. Runner-up, and tournament host, California finished 16 shots behind the Waves.
Nevada had two players finish under par for the tournament with senior
Sam Harned tying for 26
th place at 4-under and sophomore
Trey Davis placing in a tie for 31
st at 2-under. Harned turned in the low Wolf Pack round of the final day, shooting a 3-under 68. He was perfect in his round through 13 holes with four birdies and his first eagle of the season before running into a little bit of trouble at the end. Davis' 2-under par score marks a career-best tournament score to par finish for the sophomore, who tied his career-low round of 69 in the final 18. He had just one hiccup during his round on No. 17, but otherwise collected four birdies.
Senior
Tony Gil and redshirt freshman
Mitch Abbott each carded even par rounds of 71 on the final day. For Abbott that marks a career-low round with his previous low being a 75. Gil tied for 51
st place in the field of 84, while Abbott placed 83
rd. Senior
Sam Meek turned in a round of 76 on Tuesday to tie for 47
th at 1-over for the tournament.
Sahith Theegala of Pepperdine bested Harrison Kingsley of San Diego by one stroke for the individual championship, finishing at 16-under par.
Nevada will be back in action Oct. 21-23 at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, a tournament it won last season.
