RENO, Nev. - Nevada cross country's men and women are set to travel to Logan, Utah to compete in the Mountain West Championships this Friday.

Representing the women will be
Alexis Melendrez,
Mikayla Shults,
Cora Gallop,
Lauryn Massic,
Katarina Stashyn,
Erika Robtoy,
Shannon Palladino,
Kalia Pfeffer and
Rheanna Jackson.

The women ran a strong season having competed in three meets prior to the championships. Stand-out athletes include Shults, Massic and Melendrez, who all earned new personal records this season and consistently finished in Nevada's top three.

The men will be represented by
Adam Sjolund,
Massimiliano Swenson,
Jared Marchegger,
Carson Leavitt,
George Skivington and
Edward Bueso. This will be the first group of men to compete for Nevada cross country at a conference championship in 25 years.

It is expected that Sjolund, Marchegger and Leavitt will perform well at Friday's race. The championship will be Marchegger and Leavitt's second appearance of the season for Nevada, while Sjolund will be representing for the fourth time.

In a preseason poll, the Nevada women were predicted to rank sixth in the Mountain West. The men were predicted to rank eighth in their debut season. Both teams opened the 2019 season with a win at the Bonanza Casino Nevada Twilight Classic, the Pack's only home event of the season.

Last season, the Nevada women finished the Mountain West Championships in sixth place, just behind San Jose State. This year the women were ranked above San Jose State in the preseason prediction poll made by the Mountain West. Other competitors include Colorado State, Utah State and New Mexico which combined have taken the conference title in 11 consecutive seasons.
