Volleyball set to host New Mexico and UNLV

RENO, Nev. - The Nevada volleyball team is looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Air Force this past Thursday. The Wolf Pack (14-4, 4-2) is set to host the New Mexico Lobos on Thursday, Oct. 17 before hosting the Rebels of UNLV on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Nevada starts the week with the Lobos (5-13, 0-6) on Thursday at 6pm in Virginia Street Gym before the annual Silver State Series begins for Nevada and UNLV on Saturday at 1pm. This will be the first matchup of the year between the two teams for the Silver State Series. The series is presented by IBEW Local 401 and Nevada Donor Network and is a structured rivalry series that matches the Wolf Pack and the Rebels in sports and academics.

Prior to the loss, the Nevada volleyball team was on a roll, picking up four straight Mountain West wins over San Diego State, Boise State, Utah State and San José State. Last week the Pack topped the Spartans at home, 3-2 before falling to the Falcons, 4-1.

New Mexico is currently sitting in last place in the Mountain West but the Lobos are not to be overlooked as they took down Pacific in three straight sets where the Pack fell in the opening exhibition. Another common opponent is Gonzaga, who Nevada beat but New Mexico lost to, 3-0.

The Lobos are lead by Lauren Twitty who leads the team with 217 kills, and 19 service aces while Alena Moldan and Rachel Murphy lead the defense; Molden with 268 digs and Murphy with 67 blocks.

UNLV (8-9, 4-2) has won its last four Mountain West matches with wins over San Diego State, Fresno State, Utah State and Boise State. The Rebels face the Spartans of San José State prior to visiting the Virginia Street Gym. Nevada beat four of its last five that the Rebels faced, including San José State.

Shelby Capllonch leads the Rebels in kills with 216, while Mariena Hayden leads with 29 service aces and Antonette Rolda accounts for 442 of the teams 898 assists. On defense, Capllonch leads with 232 digs but Kate Brennan had 63 blocks on the year.

Fans can catch both of these matches on the Mountain West Network or in person at the Virginia Street Gym while live stats are available through nevadawolfpack.com/volleyballls.
