SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Nevada cross country team finished second in the Dellinger Invitational today, led by juniors Lindsey Adams and
Hiley Dobbs, both of whom broke the previous program record of 20:33, with times of 20:26.33 and 20:29.03, respectively.
The second place finish came ahead of the University of Portland, who came in at number twenty eight in this week's USTFCCA National Poll. Finishing first in the race was the host Oregon Ducks, who came in at fourth in the national poll.
Oregon led with a team score of 15, with the Pack following with 62. UC Davis came in third with 80, Portland took fourth with 83 and Seattle finished in fifth with 151.
"This was a really good step for the team and it really shows how much we have left for this season," said Dobbs.
The Wolf Pack score was bolstered by a total of five personal bests including Adams and Dobbs, who finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Junior
Cora Gallop shaved five seconds off her best with a time of 20:47.75 to finish tenth, junior Stephanie Ortega cut her time down half a minute with a 20:53.66 time to finish fifteenth.
Rounding out the scorers, freshman
Tabatha Walford moved into fourth on the freshman all-time list with a time of 21:44.54, which put her at number twenty five in the race.
Katarina Stashyn took her best time down 20 seconds with a time of 21:49.27 for a twenty ninth place finish.
Shannon Palladino came just short of a personal best with a time of 22:20.08 to finish thirty fourth.
"They executed the race plan to a tee," said head coach
Kirk Elias. "They pushed hard the second half and broke Portland and UC Davis. We are starting to put the pieces together."
Two other freshman made their marks on the freshman all-time list, with
Alexis Melendrez moving into fifth, right behind Walford's time, with a 21:51 time, to finish thirty. Mikayla Shultz came in thirty sixth with a time of 22:22.95, which landed her at fifteenth on the freshman all-time list.
Elias said the flood of personal bests was "just an indication of the hard work they've done and the fact that we're getting ready to do some good things."
