Salem, Ore. - Nevada's Men's and Women's Cross Country programs competed at the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Oregon, Saturday, Oct. 4.
First up on race day was the Women's 5k, where the Wolf Pack finished 5th as a team and placed four runners inside the top-30 of the 154-person field. Madelyn Shipman led the way with a personal best of 17:47.00 to take 14th overall.
Right behind her was fellow sophomore Kylee Denver, also recording a PR with a time of 17:48.30 for 15th place. Aubrey Thompson made it three Pack runners in the top-20, finishing 17th with a PR of 17:49.40. Paulina Hultberg joined them in the top-25, crossing the line in 18:02.10 for 25th.
Mary DeMartini continued the strong day with a personal best of 18:46.30 to take 64th, while Marina Renna rounded out Nevada's lineup in 91st with a time of 19:08.70.
The Men's 8k followed, where Nevada finished 6th as a team and placed two runners inside the top-30 and four in the top-80 out of a 210-person field. Austin Key paced the Pack once again, finishing 17th overall in 24:19.63.
He was followed by Eddie Yunker, who crossed in 24:34.89 for 28th, and Elijah Chavez, who finished 41st in 24:56.14. Soma Baligad placed 79th in 25:32.28, with Jackson Hammons (84th, 25:35.09) and Jett Leavitt (87th, 25:38.57) coming through close behind.
Sergio Mazon was next across in 119th with a time of 26:08.51, while Pierce Simpkins rounded out Nevada's finishers in 144th at 26:34.15.
The Pack will return to action on October 18 for the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, California.
