This Week In Wolf Pack Athletics

RENO, Nev. - The first full Nevada Athletics game week is upon Reno, beginning Thursday night as Wolf Pack Women's Soccer hosts Cal Poly at Mackay Stadium.

Nevada Football travels to Penn State to take on the second-ranked Nittany Lions Saturday at 12:30 p.m. PT on CBS, while Nevada Volleyball heads to Ogden, Utah, for three matches at Weber State's weekend tournament.

Rounding out the Wolf Pack teams in action, Nevada Cross Country heads to the Bay Area to race at the USF Invitational Friday.

Nevada opens the 2025 campaign with a cross-country trek to Happy Valley, taking on No. 2/3 Penn State Saturday at 12:30 p.m. PT. Saturday's contest will be broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+, with Brad Nessler (play-by-play), Gary Danielson (analyst), and Jenny Dell (sideline) on the call.

The Wolf Pack Radio Network will call the game on KOZZ 105.7 FM in Northern Nevada, online at www.thevarsitynetwork.com and on the Varsity Network app. John Ramey (play-by-play) and Mike Edwards (analyst) will be in the booth, with the 60-minute pregame show to begin at 11:30 a.m. PT.

Saturday's season opener will be the first meeting between Nevada and Penn State. The Nittany Lions' rank of No. 2 in the Associated Press Poll makes them the highest-ranked team Nevada has ever faced. The previous highest-ranked school faced by the Wolf Pack, in either poll, was No. 3/3 Boise State in 2010 (Nevada won, 34-31, in overtime).

The Nevada Wolf Pack women's soccer team returns home this Thursday, August 28, for an evening showdown at Mackay Stadium against Cal Poly, scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Nevada enters the match up riding a wave of momentum following a gritty 2–1 comeback victory at Northern Arizona on Sunday, August 17.
 

The Mustangs come into Reno coming off a four-game tying streak, showcasing their consistency and defensive tenacity. Nevada aims to capitalize on its recent resilience and attack-minded form to gain a home-field edge in what promises to be a competitive clash.


Once Thursday's game concludes, the Pack will immediately shift focus to the road, jetting off to Missoula, Montana, for a challenging matchup against the Montana Grizzlies.

Nevada volleyball kicks off its season on the road, competing in the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Weber State. The three-game event for Nevada will begin with Weber State on Friday at 9 AM, followed by Southern Utah later that afternoon at 4 PM. The Pack will round out their time in Utah against the Anteaters from UC Irvine at 10 AM on Saturday. 

Nevada returns key players such as senior Bella Snyder and sophomore Kinsley Singleton. In the offseason, the Pack brought in a slew of new talent including transfers Haylee Brown and Jess Walkenhorst. 

With head Coach Shannon Wyckoff-McNeal having one season under her belt, the Pack will look to build upon last season and make a run for the Mountain West Championship.

Nevada Men's and Women's Cross Country begin their respective 2025 campaigns Friday, competing at the USF Invitational hosted by the University of San Francisco in San Francisco, California.

Nevada returns star runner Tryon Jardin, who placed 26th at last years Mountain West Championships, along with Natalia Martino who placed 35th at last years Mountain West Championships, and was the best finisher for the women at last years NCAA Mountain Regional (88th).

The meet will take place at Golden Gate Park, with the women's 6k race set for a 2:00 p.m. start followed by the men's 8k race at 3:00 p.m. Live results can be found on Record Timing.
