Booth earns runner-up honors as Pack places third at MW Championship

BREMERTON, Wash. – Wrapping up the 2018 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship, the Wolf Pack earned a third place finish while senior Grant Booth snagged runner-up medalist honors.

Nevada jumped two spots on the team leaderboard on Sunday into third place. The third place finish ties the team's best finish at the Mountain West Championship and is its best finish since 2015. The Wolf Pack carded a 3-over team score of 291 for the second straight day and finished the event at 11-over par, eight shots behind Colorado State for second.

UNLV captured its third consecutive team title, and three points in the Governor's Series, winning the event at 8-under par. The Pack made a run at the Rebels, coming within four shots during the middle of its round. A rough stretch of holes to start the back nine kept Nevada in third and widened the UNLV lead.

The Wolf Pack was led by Booth who placed second in the event, his best career finish at the Mountain West Championship. Booth shot a 2-under 70 for his final round and finished the championship at 7-under par. Booth made a run at the individual title, coming within two shots of eventual champion Shintaro Ban of UNLV after making eagle on the par 5 11th. Booth played steady for the remainder of his round but Ban played the back nine at 5-under par and shot a 65 to capture the title by nine shots over Booth.

Sophomore Sam Harned also played well for Nevada on Sunday, matching Booth's round of 70. Harned played a near flawless round of golf with three birdies and just one bogey. He finished his first conference championship in a tie for 27th place in the 55-player field. Freshman Joey Vrzich began the day inside the top five but struggled during his final round, shooting a 7-over 79. Vrzich still managed a top 20 finish in his first championship appearance. Senior Corey Eddings earned a tie for 34th in his final MW Championship and sophomore Sam Meek tied for 41st after his best round of the event, a 74, moved him up two spots.

Nevada will now wait to see if it can garner an at-large bid to NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2007.
