BREMERTON, Wash. – After 36 holes of play at the 2018 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship, the Nevada men's golf team finds itself in fifth place in the 11-team field.
The Wolf Pack moved up two spots on Saturday into sole possession of fifth place after a 3-over team score of 291, the second lowest of the day. Nevada sits at 8-over par for the championship with one round remaining. The second through seventh spots on the leaderboard however are all tightly contested as the Pack trails Colorado State for second by just seven strokes. No. 24 UNLV continues to lead on the team side at 4-under par, five shots ahead of the Rams.
Playing in his last conference championship, senior
Grant Booth has put himself in a position to claim the first win of his collegiate career. Entering the final round, Booth sits at 5-under par and is just four shots behind Shintaro Ban of UNLV for the individual lead. On Saturday he carded a 1-under round of 71, making four birdies during his round which included two on his final four holes.
Freshman
Joey Vrzich could also make a run at the individual medalist honors as he currently has a score of 3-under par for the event. Like Booth, the rookie turned in a 1-under round of 71 for his second round where he made three birdies which included one on No. 18 to close his round. He enters round three tied for third place in the 55-player field.
Senior
Corey Eddings, who has had past success at the Mountain West Championship, made a big move on Saturday. After an even par round of 72 in his second round, Eddings jumped 18 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 29
th place. Sophomores
Sam Meek and
Sam Harned are even with one another after two rounds in a tie for 43
rd at 11-over par for the tournament.
