RENO, Nev. – The Nevada volleyball team continues Mountain West play this Thursday as it travels to Albuquerque, New Mexico to take on the Lobos.
The Wolf Pack (8-7, 1-3) meet with New Mexico (9-7, 3-1) on Oct. 4 with first serve at 6:00 p.m. PT.
Nevada, coming off a win at home over the Utah State Aggies is looking to take the momentum on the road. The Lobos are currently 4-1 at its home site, the Johnson Center and after a big win on the road over Air Force, will be ready to defend the home court.
The Wolf Pack saw three players collect double-doubles against Utah State in juniors
Jamila Minor and
Dalyn Burns along with sophomore
Kayla Afoa. The majority of the offensive attack has come from Minor and Afoa but juniors
Camryn Rocha and
Shiloh Peleras have started to climb the starting ranks.
Peleras had a career game against Utah State collecting eight kills and six blocks while Rocha recorded 16 kills and five blocks up front.
Defensively the Pack has seen senior
Mo Maluotoga on the forefront with a team high 232 digs overall and 58 in conference play. Afoa has also been an asset on the defense with the second highest number of digs with 184. The pair has helped the Pack maintain the top spot in Mountain West rankings with 932 digs total for a 16.64 average.
New Mexico senior Victoria Spragg claimed the Offensive Player of the Week after her 20 kills and 17 blocks over the weekend. Another veteran that the Lobos have leaned on is sophomore Lauren Twitty. The Broadlands, Virginia native, currently has 221 kills to lead the team and a 3.45 per set average while also leading the defense in digs with 159 and a 2.48 average.
The two teams have similar offensive numbers overall. Nevada currently has a 12.57 kill per set average with 704 while New Mexico has a 12.11 average off 787 kills in 65 sets.
