RENO, Nev. – Nevada men's golf coach Jacob Wilner has announced that Sam Meek, a transfer from Southern Illinois, will join the Wolf Pack in the spring of 2018 and will be eligible immediately.

"We are excited for Sam to join us mid-season," said Wilner. "He brings tournament experience and adds depth to our program."

Meek joins Nevada after transferring from Southern Illinois University where he played a season and a half. During this past fall, Meek competed in four events and posted a scoring average of 77.1. His best finish of the fall came in the season opener at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate, a tie for 26th place.

As a freshman at SIU he participated in nine of the team's 11 events and compiled a 76.1 scoring average. He was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week after a top 25 finish at the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational where he shot a collegiate career-low 67 during the final round. He also led the Salukis at the MVC Championship with a top 15.

Meek boasts impressive accolades prior to his college career as well, winning the Canadian Junior Championship in 2016 after he shot a 66 in the first round. Also in 2016 he finished as the runner-up at both the Ontario Junior Match Play and the CN Future Links Quebec and advanced to the round of 64 at the US Junior Amateur.
