Gabby Szachara - At Air Force
This past week we traveled to Fort Collins, Colorado for our match against the Air Force Academy. We started the trip in the Reno airport where we flew to Denver, Colorado. Next, we loaded up into the rental cars are drove to the destination. We ate dinner then turned in for the night to get some rest for the next day's game. Gameday arrived and we started with breakfast at the hotel followed a serve and pass practice. We then got lunch at Panera and headed back to the hotel for some homework and rest time. Before leaving the hotel, we watched some film to strategize for the game and watch some of the main strengths and weaknesses of our opponents. We then packed up and headed to the gym for the match. On the Air Force Academy campus, which is a beautiful spread of mountains and forested areas, we saw some wild turkeys. The match ended up being a success, we swept the Air Force Academy in three games. After the match, we got dinner and our coach
Lee Nelson surprised us with caramel apples. Following dinner, we drove back to Denver to stay the night before we left the next morning to come back to Reno.Â
Jamila Minor - At Fresno State
This past Thursday, the Wolf Pack volleyball team traveled to Fresno State for a conference game. After a good practice at VSG we got dressed and got on the bus to Fresno. This was, for many of us first, the bus trip to Fresno. If you would have walked through that bus you would have saw snacks in every chair to make it through this trip. Thursday, we prepared for the game that night with a serve and pass to get familiar with the gym. Playing at Fresno is always a great experience because we have the fans and the band yelling trying to get into our heads. A lot of times the jokes they yell at us are pretty funny and they actually help us relax more by lifting the mood. We played a hard-fought match but were unable to put everything together to get the win, losing to Fresno 3-1. Upset about the loss we knew that we only had tonight to get over it because tomorrow morning we would be on our way to San Diego.Â
Camille Davey - At San Diego State
I was so excited to go and be near home and the beach this past weekend. When we landed in San Diego we went to a breakfast place called the Big Kitchen. It was a great breakfast and the servers were so excited to have us. That night we went to Sam's house, a former Nevada volleyball player. There her family had us all over for dinner and it was amazing per usual (since we ate there last year too). They have a gorgeous house and they are always so welcoming and sweet. After dinner we were surprised as we got dropped off at Escapology. This was filled with escape rooms where you're split into groups and have an hour to escape rooms through clues and secret keys. We were split into two groups and we ended up both escaping with time left. It was so exhilarating as we all worked together in order to find the best way to escape each room. After Escapology, Coach Lee let us go on the roller coaster in Belmont Park. Which we all went on together, including the coaches. We saw the water right next to us and it was a great view. The next day we got swept against San Diego state, however we learned from it and will use it to our advantage in the upcoming home games this next weekend. It was so awesome seeing my family and friends for a couple days and being close to home felt great!
