Nevada volleyball takes down Montana State in three straight sets

Box Score BOZEMAN, Mont. - Nevada volleyball kicked of the EVEN Hotel Bobcat Classic with a boom as they took down Montana State in three straight sets on Thursday night.

The Pack set the tempo right away with three straight points to open the match, sparked by back-to-back kills from Nicanora Clarke. Nevada kept control through the opening set, never allowing Montana State to get in front and only one tie occurred.

Nevada saw its largest lead in the first of eight after a 6-0 run by the Pack. Clarke both kicked off the run and rounded it out with two more kills. She went on to lead the Pack in kills in the opener with five.

After a 6-3 run to finish out the first, Nevada came away on top, 25-18.

Set two was a closer battle as the teams fought for the advantage with four lead changes and six ties through the first half of the set. Up by one, Nevada went on a five-point scoring run to put distance between themselves and Montana State, 17-11. Clarke, Haylee Brown and Bella Snyder each contributed with one kill during the run, while Summer Suppik had two aces.

The Bobcats attempted a comeback, cutting the lead back to four late in the set, but the Pack continued to hold them off and take the second, 25-20.

The final set began like the second, before Nevada pulled off a five-point run to go up 13-7. Montana State tried to chip away at Nevada's lead, but the Pack were able to put it away, taking the third with a final of 25-19.

Nevada held its opponent to just a .122 hitting percentage and single-digit kills for each set. Offensively, Nevada had 48 total kills to Montana State's 26.

Brown led both teams in Kills with 13, followed by Clarke with 10. At the net, Kamryn Tifft led with three blocks, while Clarke and Snyder had two a piece.

Nevada will next take on Santa Clara at 12 PM tomorrow in the final day of the EVEN Hotel Bobcat Classic.
