SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Nevada Volleyball closed out the Sacramento State Invitational, Saturday, falling in a five-set clash (25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 23-25, 15-9) with Texas Tech. 

Set one was a tight battle, with the teams deadlocked at 5-5, 10-10 and 17-17 before the Red Raiders attack led by Kenna McKenzie (3 kills) beat the Nevada block late in the set. The Pack went on to fall in set one, 25-19. 

The Pack fought early in set two, down 9-4 early before tying the game up at 11-11. The Pack were subject to three separate Tech runs late in the set, a three, four, and five point run led to a final set score of 25-15. Paige Thies was the highlight for the Pack attack in set two, clocking five kills. 

Nevada showed grit in set three, down early 7-3 and 15-10, before Thies and Mckaley Herr sparked the Pack to two separate four point runs, combining for 13 kills in the set. Nevada closed out the set 25-22 to head to a fourth. 

In set four, both teams fought back and forth early, tied at 5-5, 10-10, and 15-15. A three point run, sparked by middle Karly Bonaventure (2 kills) pushed Nevada into the lead, 20-17, followed by a couple of Tech service errors was enough for the Pack to close out the set 25-23 and force a fifth and final set. 

The Pack were competitive early in set five off the back of two kills from Kamryn Tifft, tying the game at 5-5. The Red Raiders went on a nine point run from there, enough for them to eventually close out the set 15-9.

Paige Thies once again led the Wolf Pack attack, tallying a career and match-high 23 kills while recording a double-double with 10 digs and hitting .298. Keely Hummel orchestrated the Wolf Pack offense with 45 assists, adding 12 digs for a double-double of her own. Masyn Navarro anchored the back row with a match-high 20 digs. Karly Bonaventure was the leader in blocks, tallying five for the match. 

The Pack will return to Virginia Street Gym for their next game against Weber State next Thursday, September 10 at 6PM.
