Box Score SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Nevada Volleyball kicked off the Sacramento State Invitational, Thursday, losing in a five-set battle (25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 18-25, 15-10) against Sacramento State.
Set one was a tight battle between the Pack and the Hornets, with both teams trading runs prior to the first media timeout, with the better of the two a five to zero run from Nevada. Both teams traded defensively on the block late in the set, with the Hornets eventually running out the set 25-18.
The Wolf Pack attack shared kills early in the second set, leading 7-3 and then 15-11 at the media timeout off the back of a
Ceren Sert ace.
Paige Thies kept the Pack momentum flowing, leading the way to the 25-22 set two win, scoring five kills on the set.
The beginning of set three was back and forth, with the teams deadlocked prior to a four to zero run from the Hornets, the Pack heading into the media timeout down 15-12. That deficit was held through the end of the set, with the Hornets eventually closing the set 25-18. Thies was again the highlight for the Pack, clocking five kills and an ace in the set.
The Pack showed grit early in set four rolling a seven to nothing run into a 15-4 scoreline at the media timeout.
Madison Long sparked the momentum for the Pack with three kills and two blocks up to that point. The Pack kept things rolling, taking the tie to a fifth set, taking set four 25-18.
The Hornets got out to an early lead in the final set, up 7-4 and then 10-5 off the back of 5 kills from Victoria Marthaler. The Pack's
Kamryn Tifft put up a fight for the attack late in the set with two kills, however Nevada fell in the final set 15-10.
Paige Thies was once again the highlight for the Wolf Pack, earning a double double with 15 kills and 17 digs.
Madison Long led hitting percentage, hitting .667, clocking six kills off nine attacks.
Kamryn Tifft was next best, hitting .353, with six kills off 17 attacks.
Keely Hummel had 31 attacks, starting at setter.
Ceren Sert was the leader for blocks, totaling four for the game.
