Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Thomas Patterson

Nevada drop season opener to Portland

Portland, Ore. - Nevada Volleyball kicked off the 2026 season with a road game in Portland, Oregon, losing in three straight sets to Portland.

The Pack showed good pace early in the first set, heading into the first media timeout up 15-12, with help from Ceren Sert and Paige Thies both earning three kills early in set one. Nevada were out-blocked 38 to 31 in the set which halted the Pack attack, eventually falling 23-25 in set one.

The Pack struggled to match Portland early in the second set, heading into the media timeout down 9-15. The Pack clawed back to set the score 16-18 off the back of a kill and ace from Ceren Sert, before a three point run from Portland, which led to the Pack losing the set 18-25.

In the final set, an early three point run from Portland found the Pack down 4-8, trailing the Pilots for the early portion of the set. Nevada found form in the middle of the set, going on a three point run of their own off the back of a kill from Mckaley Herr and solid defense from Ceren Sert and Jess Walkenhorst. Portland's strong attack ended up being too strong for the Pack, with the Pilots concluding the match with an 18-25 scoreline in set three.

Leading the Pack in kill percentage was Ceren Sert, hitting .429, followed by Jess Walkenhorst, hitting .400. Karly Bonaventure led the team in blocks with three, Adriana Dorn led the team in assists with 17 followed by Keely Hummel with eight, and Masyn Navarro led the team in digs with 14.

Nevada play again on the road tomorrow at 1PM against Portland State at Viking Pavilion.
