RENO, Nev. – Nevada's men and women cross country programs are set to compete at the Mountain West Championships Friday, November 1 hosted by Air Force, at Eisenhower Golf Course in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This meet will mark only the second time Air Force has hosted the championship, the last time being in 2013.
The meet will kick off with the Women's 6K race at 9:00 a.m. (PT) followed by the Men's 8K race scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m. (PT). Both races will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
The No. 6 nationally ranked New Mexico Lobos men's team and the No. 8 nationally ranked Lobos women's team were selected as the conference favorites heading into the postseason. Of the teams competing in the women's field, the Lobos are the only team nationally ranked, while on the men's side the Lobos are joined by No. 19 Utah State and No. 20 Wyoming. The Pack were picked to finish seventh on the men's side and eighth on the women's.
On the women's side,
Claire Nelson has performed well this season and she looks to back up last years performance of 37th at the MW Championships with another strong race this year. Additionally, freshman
Paulina Hultberg is looking to star in her first outing at the MW Championships.
Daniel Sayo and
Tryon Jardin are the front runners on the men's side and have been the best performers thus far for the Pack. Sayo is looking to back up his strong 22nd place finish from last year.
The Pack's last outing came just two weeks ago in a strong field at the Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Oregon, a great preparation for the MW Championships.
Last season the men finished seventh overall at the Mountain West Championships, while the women finished eighth, ahead of rival UNLV, earning the Nevada Wolf Pack three points in the Silver State Series.
