Sayo and Nelson lead the Pack at the Dellinger Invitational

Springfield, Ore. - Nevada's Men's and Women's Cross Country programs completed the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Oregon, Friday Oct. 11.

It was "a rough day at the office," said Nevada Cross Country head coach Kirk Elias, "Daniel Sayo was solid while Celime Garcia had a darn good day. That was the best race of his career."

The 8k was up first for the Men and the Wolf Pack finished 10th and had three places in the top-80 in this strong Dellinger Invitational field, which included nationally recognized BYU (#2), Oregon (#22) and Portland (#24).

Daniel Sayo led the way for the Wolf Pack with a strong race, running a 23:56.40 to place 39th. This time was just two seconds short of his PR, which is #2 on the program's all time list for the 8k. Next up for the Pack was Tryon Jardin who ran a PR, finishing in 49th with a time of 24:04.80, setting the #4 time in program history. Rounding out the top-80 finishers was Celime Garcia who ran a strong 24:33.70 to finish in 78th. Our other top-100 finisher was Jaedyn Chase, finishing in 95th with a time of 24:49.80. A mention to Austin Key, who set the program's #19 time with a 25:38.40.

Next up on race day was the Women's 6k, where the Wolf Pack finished 12th and had three finishers in the top-70 out of the 154-person field.

Claire Nelson led the way for the Wolf Pack with a great race, finishing in 27th with a time of 20:47.9. Next best for the Pack was Paulina Hultberg who ran a good race, finishing 61st with a time of 21:32.1. Rounding out the top-70 finishers was Natalia Martino, running a time of 21:42.4 to finish in 68th. Our other top-100 finisher was Freshman Marina Renna, who ran a solid time of 22:00.0 to finish 95th.

"Claire Nelson always puts out a good effort. She raced well. Paulina Hultberg had the best race of her young career. We are now focused on preparing for conference," Elias added.

The Nevada teams return to action Nov. 1 at the Mountain West Championships hosted by Air Force.
