RENO, Nev. - The Nevada Women's Golf program and Head Coach Kathleen Takaishi have announced the addition of Jordan Amelon to the staff as a full-time Assistant Coach.
A former Division I golfer, Amelon brings a plethora of experience and knowledge of the game, and she will join the staff prior to the start of the 2023-24 season.
"I am so excited to have Jordan join our program," said Takaishi. "Bringing on a full-time assistant coach this season will have a tremendous impact on our team, and I think that Jordan is the perfect person for this role. She was an excellent collegiate player, and I think that she has the potential to be a great coach."
Amelon joins the Pack Women's Golf program after completing her Master's Degree in Sports and Recreation Management at the University of Iowa, where she also competed for the Hawkeyes' Women's Golf team. In her lone season competing for Iowa, Amelon accumulated a scoring average of 78.46 across 32.5 rounds. She finished tied for 40th at the 2023 Big Ten Championships and was a recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award at the end of the season.
Prior to joining the Iowa Women's Golf program, Amelon competed for four years at St. Catherine University, where she put together a superb career. In her final season with the program, she was named to the MIAC All-Academic Team, in addition to being recognized as a member of the WGCA All-Region team. Amelon set a program record for 36-hole low score by carding a 145 (72-73) at the Wartburg fall invite. Throughout the season, she led the team with an average score of 78.3, which also ranked seventh best in the MIAC.
Amelon has also compiled solid coaching experience while she played at the collegiate level, serving as a golf camp instructor for the University of Iowa's summer golf camps in 2022, where she led drill stations, instructed campers on the fundamentals of golf, and planned and organized drill stations to maximize each camper's potential.
Amelon also served as a summer camp instructor at the Brown Deer Golf Course in Coralville, Iowa during the summer of 2021, where she instructed and supervised campers, while utilizing creative ways to teach first-time golfers about short game fundamentals.
Amelon earned a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Business Administration from St. Catherine University, in addition to receiving a M.S. in Sports and Recreation Management from Iowa.
She will now aim to help the Nevada Women's Golf program build upon one of the best seasons in program history, as the team seeks to compete for a Mountain West Championship this year.
