SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The Nevada track and field team competed in the Mountain West Challenge, where the team finished 4th overall and saw a familiar name move up the all-time list.
Sophomore Emily Costello, who had already moved up to fourth all-time at Nevada in the 400 meter dash this season, moved up to second all-time with her time of 54.40. This not only moved her up on the all-time list, but also earned her seven team points and a second place finish in the event.
Also competing in the 400m dash was freshman Lillian Gregg. The freshman would finish with a time of 57.55. This not only earning her a fourth place finish and five team points, but also earning her a new personal best. Beating out her previous personal best of 58.61
A couple of Wolf Pack athletes also earned first place finishes at the meet. Freshman Alisha Pawlowski tied for first place in the high jump. Her height of 1.70m was not only good enough for nine team points, but also earning her a new outdoor personal best.
In the distance area, sophomore Tabatha Walford earned a first place finish with a time of 4:35.55. This time earned her nine team points and a new personal best. Senior Stefanie Ortega would finish in fourth with a time of 4:39.64, earning her team five points. Junior Kate Rye and senior Lauryn Massic would finish back-to-back in eighth and ninth. Rye would finish with a time of 4:45.08 and Massic would finish with a time of 4:52.16.
In another distance event, Ortega finished in second place in the 3000m run with a time of 10:06.02. Earning her team seven points. Walford would finish just behind her teammate in third with a time of 10:25.46, earning her team six points. Junior Alexis Melendrez would finish in fifth with a time of 10:40.47.
Two hurdling events saw some new Nevada personal bests. Freshman Serena Shimada earned a time of 15.70 in the 100m hurdles. This earning her a personal best and three team points. She would also earn a personal best in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.76. Freshman Summer Steinsrud would also earn personal bests in both events. Earning a time of 15.88 in the 100m hurdles and a time of 1:05.66 in the 400m hurdles.
Junior Brooke Carson, who competed in the 100m and 200m dash, earned personal bests in both events. Her time of 12.46 in the 100m dash earned her a seventh place finish and four team points. Her 200m dash time of 25.45 earned her an eighth place finish and three team points.
Two other running events saw top-five finishes from Wolf Pack freshman. Freshman Raegan Gorzeman not only earned a fifth place finish in the 800m run with her time of 2:12.20, but also earned a new personal best. Freshman Kylie Burton would finish in fourth place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.18. This time earned her team five points.
Some top field event marks include sophomore Rayven Nealey who finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.61m. This distance earned the Wolf Pack six points. In the long jump, sophomore Olaia Becerill earned the top mark for the Pack with her distance of 5.44m. In the pole vault, freshman Samantha Irwin earned a sixth place finish and five team points with her height of 3.07m. Lastly, senior Emma Dern finished in fifth place with a distance of 12.85m in the shot put. This earning the team five points.
The Wolf Pack would finish in fourth place with a total of 112 points. Senior Nicola Ader, junior Hanah Smrt, and sophomore Anna Maria Sommerfeld will compete tomorrow and Friday in the heptathlon at the UCLA Invitational.
