LAS VEGAS, NEV. – After competing in their first meet a couple of weeks ago, the Nevada men's and women's cross country teams have competed in the Mountain West Championships, where senior Hiley Dobbs and freshman Daniel Sayo topped the Pack again.
Sayo, who moved into first all-time for the men's 6k last meet, finished 34th with a time of 24:58. Dobbs, who's second all-time in the women's 6k, finished the meet in 16th with a time of 20:46. These times would be the top times for the Wolf Pack.
The men's side saw two of their members finish back-to-back time. Sophomore Adam Sjolund, who didn't compete in the Battle Born Challenge, finished 51st with a time of 25:44. Right behind him was sophomore Brian Kipchumba who finished with a time of 25:47.
The women's side saw some familiar veterans in their next two finishes. Senior Stefanie Ortega, improved her time from the Battle Born Challenge with a 27th place time of 21:05. Her time at the last meet was 21:15. Sophomore Tabatha Walford finished in 41st with a time of 21:37.
The women's team also had two true freshmen compete in their first competition. Marena Middleton, who finished 66th, ended the meet with a time of 22:48. The 24th best time as a freshman. Carley Legenbauer, who finished 74th, ended the meet with a time of 23:26. This would be the 31st best time for a freshman.
The men's team had two Pack athletes finish with personal Nevada bests. Sophomore Alex Mendoza ended the meet with a time 26:40 and earned a 62nd place finish. This would beat his old personal best of 26:58. Junior Andrew Ribeiro finished the meet with a time of 26:13 and placement of 58th. This beat his time in the Battle Born Challenge which was 26:37.
Some other men's times include sophomore Celime Garcia who finished 57th with a time of 26:08. Just a little off his time of 26:06 at the Battle Born Challenge. Sophomore Jared Marchegger, who hasn't competed this season, finished 61st with a time of 26:36. Lastly, Alex Mendoza finished with a time of 26:40, which earned him a 62nd place finish.
Some other women's times include senior Lauryn Massic who finished 58th with a time of 22:30. Senior Carli Corpus, who competed in her first meet of the season, finished with a time of 22:45 and a 64th place finish. Lastly, junior Kate Rye finished in 65th with a time of 22:47.
Both the men's and women's teams finished in seventh in their respective fields. The men finished with 214 points while the women finished with 174 points.
The Nevada women's and men's cross country teams will look to get back to work in preparation for the fall season
