THIS WEEK FOR THE WOLF PACK

WHAT'S NEXT: Following a historic performance on the road against San Diego State last weekend, the Nevada volleyball team will cap its four-match road trip with a pair of matches at San José State on Friday and Saturday. After dropping its first four matches, Nevada has roared back to win three of its last four.

FOLLOW THE ACTION: This week's matches will be live-streamed and live scoring will also be available. Please see the links above.

LAST TIME OUT: Nevada made history with its first-ever road win at San Diego State on Friday, Feb. 26 as the Wolf Pack dropped the first set and then roared back to win the next three sets. Nevada then swept the Aztecs in the second match.

ABBREVIATED SCHEDULE FORMAT: As a result of the pandemic, the Mountain West Conference has moved to a conference only 16-match schedule this spring. The format has teams playing the same opponent twice during the first six weeks, then playing the remaining four MW schools once each in the final three weeks ending April 3. The regular season champion will be the Mountain West's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS: San José State is off to a 1-5 start to the season with the Spartans' lone win coming in a split against Air Force two weeks ago. SDSU open the year being swept by Boise State and the Spartans come into this weekend's match with the Wolf Pack on the heels of a sweep at Fresno State.
SJSU is led in attacks by Haylee Nelson, who has 81 kills on the year and Latahevai Lousi, who has 77. Sarah Smevog leads the way with 87 digs while Allyson Alden paces the Spartans with 18 blocks.
SJSU is hitting .164 on the year and allowing opponents a hitting percentage of .239.

MW PRESEASON POLL: The Spartans were picked to finish ninth in the preseason Mountain West poll, two spots below Nevada. SJSU libero Sarah Smevog was named to the preseason All-MW team

THE SERIES: Nevada is 23-29 all-time against the Spartans. SJSU won the last meeting in 2019 and has won four of the last five matches overall. Prior to that, Nevada has a six-match winning streak in the series from 2014 to 2017. Since joining the Mountain West, Nevada is 2-4 against SJSU in San Jose, Calif.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: Nevada has a handful of players who are ranked in the top 10 of the statistical categories within the Mountain West Conference. Sophomore Andrea Alcaraz is third in the Mountain West in assists with 9.3 per set. Freshman Reka Monteleone is second in the league in aces with 0.53 per set and she's 10th in kills at 3.0 per set.
Nevada ranks third in the Mountain West in blocks as a team and a big part of that is the production of Sydney Peterson, Kassie McGill and Brianna Souza as all three are in the top 10 in blocks this season. Peterson, a sophomore, ranks third in the conference in blocks at 1.37 per set and McGill, a senior, is eighth at 1.07. Souza, also a senior, is 10th at 1.03. The Wolf Pack is averaging 2.73 blocks per set.

UP NEXT: Nevada will come home to Virginia Street Gym to play host to Boise State in a pair of matches March 12-13.
