ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After a successful meet in Sunnyvale, the Wolf Pack men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Albuquerque to compete in the Mountain West Championships.
The meet concluded with the men's team finishing in sixth and beating three teams in the conference with a point total of 168. The men's team would improve their finish from the spring, where they finished in seventh. The women's team would finish the meet in seventh with a point total of 208. The women's team would finish above the UNLV Rebels, which will earn the Pack three more points in the Silver State Series.
The top finisher on the women's team would be Sophomore Tierney Wolfgram, who would finish in ninth with a time of 19:58.6. This time would earn the sophomore MW All-Conference Second Team honors. On the men's side junior Jared Marchegger would finish in 26th with his time of 24:19. The time not only earned Marchegger a new personal best, but now ties him for second all-time at Nevada in the 8k.
For the men, four more would finish in the top-50. Junior Adam Sjolund would finish in 33rd with a time of 24:29.9. This time was just 20 seconds lower than his school record time. Sophomore Daniel Sayo would finish the meet in 38th with a time of 24:38.8. His time was only 11 seconds off his personal best. Junior Andrew Ribeiro finished in 47th with a time of 25:04.9. Finally, junior Carson Leavitt finished just behind Ribeiro in 48th with a time of 25:05.6. This time would earn Leavitt a new personal best.
On the women's side, three of the athletes finished back-to-back-to-back. Sophomore Marena Middleton would finish in 61st with a time of 21:56.9. Her time would improve her personal best, and move her to 25th all-time at Nevada in the 6k. In 62nd would be senior Tabatha Walford, who finished with a time of 22:07.6. Finally, senior Kate Rye would finish in 63rd with a time of 22:08.3.
The final times for the women's side would include junior Kalia Pfeffer, who finished in 71st with a time of 22:43.1. Just behind the junior was freshman Madelyn Shipman, who earned a personal best time of 22:50.4. This time would move Shipman 48th all-time at Nevada. Lastly, sophomore Carley Legenbauer would finish in 85th with a time of 24:22.
The final three men's times would include sophomore Brian Kipchumba who finished in 60th with a time of 25:45.8. Not far behind was junior Celime Garcia who finished in 62nd with a time of 25:52.2. Finally, just behind Garcia was senior Alex Mendoza who finished with a time of 26:19.5.
This concludes the conference championships for the Nevada men's and women's cross country teams. Both teams will look to travel to Provo to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships on Friday Nov. 12.
