Tierney Wolfgram named Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week

RENO, Nev. – After breaking an American Junior record on Saturday, Tierney Wolfgram has been named Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week.

The 17-years old from Minnesota, earned this award after she broke the Women's American Junior record with her time of 2:31:49 in only her third marathon. Her time completely shattered the old record of 2:34:32, which had stood since 1984. The freshman's time also was only around 11 minutes behind the under-20 world marathon record set by Shure Demise with her time of 2:20:59.

The freshman already showed out earlier this year when she competed at the 2020 US Olympic Trials. Wolfgram ran in the 2020 US Olympic Trials marathon finishing in 2:42.47. She was the youngest qualifier for the Olympic trials marathon in 2020, competing there while still 16 years old. Out of the 360 women who competed in the trials, she finished 76th overall. Like many high school athletes this spring, Wolfgram was forced to time trial, running 4:54.7 for the mile, 10:22 for 3200m and 16:34.7 for 5000m.

Wolfgram, who attended Woodbury High School, also had two Minnesota 1A State Cross Country titles, as well as a Minnesota title in the 1600m and 3200m. All of this adding to an already impressive resume at a young age.

Wolfgram looks to break many records and earn more awards in her very young Nevada Cross Country career.
