BOISE, Idaho – The Nevada track and field team competed in the last day of the Ed Jacoby Invitational, which saw many first place finishes and some new top ten Nevada performances.
The team had both junior Karoline Sauer and freshman Rayven Nealey make it on the top ten Nevada performance list for their respective events.
Sauer competed in the 800 meter dash and finished the event with a time of 2:12.60. This time was good enough for a first place finish at the meet, and a seventh place placement in the Nevada top ten for the event. This time just barely beating out former Pack member Zanae Jones with her time of 2:12.84.
Nealey got her Nevada top ten placement in the triple jump. She finished the event with a distance of 11.85m which was enough for first place in the event. Her distance also gave her a ninth place placement in the Nevada top ten, just getting ahead of teammate Gabby Fraser with her distance of 11.68m.
Sophomore Emily Costello had a top three finish in all three events that she competed in on the day. Costello started the day with the 60m dash prelims, which saw the sophomore move on to the finals with a time of 7.76. In the finals, she ended up getting a better time and earning second place with a time of 7.70.
Costello then continued her success in the 200m dash. She finished the event with another second place finish, and a time of 24.54. This time being only 0.01 off her 6th place Nevada all-time placement in the event.
Lastly, Costello joined teammates Brooke Carson, Karoline Sauer, and Agnese Mulatero in their first place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The four Wolf Pack athletes finished with a time of 3:51.72, which was almost six seconds better than the runner-up.
At the end of the day, the Pack saw success in three field events throughout the day. Senior Gaby Palmer finished the day with a first place finish in the pole vault with a height of 3.75m. Sophomore Gabby Fraser was just behind Nealey finishing third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.58m. Also finishing in third was senior Brandi French who finished the shot put with a distance of 13.94m
The Pack will be back on the road next week when it takes part in the New Mexico team open on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 in Albuquerque.
