Ader sits 60 points off eighth place after heptathlon day one

Sophomore sets two personal records

AUSTIN, Texas  – After day one of the NCAA Outdoor National Championship's heptathlon, Wolf Pack sophomore Nicola Ader sits just 60 points away from eighth place and a spot on the podium. Ader sits in 12th place with a score of 3,443 after four events, which included two personal records.

"Overall it was a really good day I think I did a pretty good job of staying relaxed," said Ader. "There wasn't any single event I was upset about."

Ader opened the afternoon with a blistering 13.61 second finish in the 100m hurdles. The time was significantly faster than her previous personal record of 13.89, jumping her all the way into third all-time at Nevada. The time was good for 10th in the 24-person field, earning her 1,034 points.

In the high jump, Ader would reach a max height of 5' 10" (1.78 meter) to finish third, bringing her point total up to 1,987. The point total had her sitting in fourth overall going into the shot put.

Ader would continue her hot start with a second personal record on the day, reaching 38' 0.25" (11.59 m) in the shot put. The mark earned her 634 points, leaving her in fifth place with a total score of 2,621 points.

The final event of the day saw Ader come within a hair of breaking her 200m personal record with a time of 25.72 seconds. The 822 points put her day one total up to 3,443, over a hundred points higher than the day one total of her personal record performance earlier this year.

Last night, Ader became the first ever from Nevada to earn All-American honors twice in the same year with a 12th place finish in the long jump. Ader also earned second team All-American honors in the high jump during the indoor season. Ader is seeking to become the first member of the Pack to earn a top-eight finish at the outdoor national championships since Caira Hane's eighth-place finish in the hammer during the 2006 season.

The sophomore will be back in action tomorrow to complete the heptathlon, as well as compete in the open high jump. Day two of the heptathlon begins at 11:30 a.m. PT with the long jump, and includes the javelin at 12:45 p.m. PT. The competition wraps up with the open high jump at 3:00 p.m. PT and the heptathlon 800m at 5:13 p.m. PT. Coverage will be available on the ESPN family of networks, and live results can be found at nevadawolfpack.com/tf.
