CLOVIS, Calif. – The Nevada track and field team completed the second day of the 2019 Mountain West Outdoor Championships. Sophomore Hiley Dobbs took fourth in the 10,000m with a school record time of 34:33.91.
Dobb's finish earned the Pack five points, and represented a personal improvement of nearly 30 seconds. Going into the weekend, Dobbs' time would sit in 44th in the NCAA West Region, which would qualify her for NCAA West Prelims in two weeks. Dobbs passed teammate Morgin Coonfield on both the Nevada all-time list, and the NCAA West Region list. Coonfield's time of 34:39.64, set this season, is good for 45th in the West going into this weekend, also good for qualifying going into the weekend.
Sommerfeld opened day two of the competition with a leap of 15' 11.25" (4.86 meters) in the long jump to bring her total score to 3,312. Sommerfeld followed up with the javelin, reaching a personal-best mark of 140' (42.69 m) to top the event. The throw was a heptathlon javelin school record, and gave her 719 points, bringing her total to 4,031, over a hundred points higher than her previous record of 3,913, set at last month's Bryan Clay Invitational.
The native of Brandenberg, Germany finished with a time of 2:34.83 in the 800m, bringing her final score to 4,665. The point total was good for eighth overall, putting Nevada on the board with one point.
After the heptathlon and 10,000m, the Wolf Pack sits in eighth with a total score of six points. Boise State leads the meet with 13 points.
