BERKELEY, Calif. – The Nevada track and field team concluded its 2019 outdoor regular season at today's Brutus Hamilton Invitational. Junior Gaby Palmer recorded the top mark of the day, moving to second all-time at Nevada while winning the pole vault.
Palmer cleared a 13' 4.25" (4.07 meters) bar to move from third to second all-time at Nevada. Going into this weekend, the mark would give Palmer sole possession of fourth place in the Mountain West. Palmer was previously tied with SDSU's Alysia Allen.
The Pack saw success in the 200m race, with sophomore Lauren Green setting a new personal record to finish seventh, and freshman Emily Costello nearly breaking her own personal record as well to finish second. Green clocked a 25.25 second finish, and Costello finished in 24.17.
Costello's personal record of 24.16 is currently fourth all-time at Nevada, and going into the weekend sits at 10th in the Mountain West.
The near record-breaking finish comes hours after Costello took second in the 400m with a time of 55.66 seconds.
Sophomore Eliza McCall narrowly missed a personal record as well, finishing fifth in the 800m with a time of 2:09.94, just off her personal record time of 2:09.93. McCall's personal record sits in seventh all-time at Nevada. Her 2:09.94 finish today is a season high, and heading into the weekend would be good for eighth in the Mountain West.
McCall was just the first of four Nevada runners to finish in the top 10 of the 800m. Freshman Erika Robtoy took sixth with a personal record time of 2:12.22, senior Zanae Jones took seventh with a personal record time of 2:12.43 and freshman Mikayla Shults took eighth with yet another personal record. Shults would finish in 2:13.33.
Freshmen Gabby and Denver Fraser both finished in the top five of the triple jump, led by Gabby Fraser's 37' 8.50" (11.49 m) jump to finish third. Denver finished fifth with a leap of 35' 11.25" (10.95 m).
Denver Fraser took seventh in the long jump as well, finishing with a best mark of 16' 11.50" (5.17 m).
In the shot put, the Wolf Pack's trio of freshman Grace Wills and sophomores Tina Lao and Aaliyah Earl finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Wills threw 40' 10.50" (12.46 m), Lao threw 37' 11.50" (12.46 m) and Earl set a personal record with a 35' 3.25" (10.75 m) toss.
In the 400m hurdles, junior Andrea Stark set a personal record with a time of 1:06.48. Freshman Shelby Garrison's time of 1:06.72 was just a hundredth of a second slower than her personal record time of 1:06.71.
This concludes the Wolf Pack's regular season. Postseason competition for Nevada kicks off in two weeks at the Mountain West Championships. The meet is hosted by Fresno State and runs from May 8-11.
