ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Nevada women's track and field team finished the final day of the Mountain West Indoor Championships, and saw a school record for the second day in a row. Sophomore
Nicola Ader moved into a tie for the best high jump in school history with a 6' (1.83 m) jump. The Wolf Pack finished ninth in the meet's team points, with a score of 30. Nevada finishes ahead of San Jose State and Air Force, with Colorado State winning the meet with a team score of 139.
Ader bounced back after being unable to complete Thursday's pentathlon due to an injury. The school record height was enough to win the event, making her the first member of the Pack to win individual events in consecutive years since Nevada joined the Mountain West. Ader won the pentathlon at last year's indoor championships. The height tied the sixth-best mark in the nation going into the weekend.
"I'm really happy for Nicola to come back after the injury in the pentatlon and win the high jump and put up a school record," said assistant coach
Scott Williamson, who oversees the jumps. "The performance gives her a great shot at making NCAAs."
The native of Affolterbach, Germany set a personal record in the high jump on Thursday with a height of 5' 10.50" (1.79 m), before failing to clear the bar set at 5' 11.75" (1.82 m). The 5' 10.50" (1.79 m) personal record set today was good for fourth all-time at Nevada.
Emily Costello took sixth in the 400m with a time of 55.42 seconds. The time was good for three points and moved the freshman up to third on the all-time list at Nevada. In the 800m, senior
Zanae Jones took sixth for another three team points with a time of 2:15.19.
Freshman
Gabby Fraser landed in the top 10 of the triple jump with a personal record jump of 38' 3.75" (11.68 m) good for ninth place. In the 3,000m, senior Lindsey Sicker topped her heat with a time of 9:56.98 to take 11th overall.
Nevada wrapped up the day with the 4x400m relay, taking the top spot in their heat and fifth overall with a time of 3:50.20. The relay squad consisted of sophomores
Lauren Green,
Eliza McCall,
Brooke Carson and freshman
Emily Costello.
Should Ader's height finish among the top 16 in the country, she will be in action again in two weeks for the NCAA Indoor National Championships in Birmingham, Ala. From March 8-9. The Wolf Pack will begin the outdoor season March 15 in Sacramento, Calif. for the Hornet Invitational.
