MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Nevada swim and dive teams are currently in first place after having a superb first day of competition. The 204 points scored on the first day is 15 points better than the 2018 Mountain West Championship day one.
The 800-free relay picked up the Mountain West title under the senior direction of
Caitlyn Richardson and
Rebecca Murray. Junior
Andressa Cholodovskis and sophomore
Caitlyn McHugh swam the first two legs setting up Murray in the anchor spot to seal the win with a time of 7:09.76.
Nevada divers got it started with scoring all four that entered along with qualifying three for finals in the 1-meter. Senior
Toma Shmitova along with two freshman
Linnea Sorensen and
Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez all posted top-8 scores moving them to finals that took place in the evening.
Newcomer, Vazquez Lopez finished with a silver medal scoring 309.60 while Shmitova placed fourth overall with 299.95. That is a 15.10 point increase from 2018 when she placed ninth overall. Rounding out the group was Sorensen who finished fifth with 296.25 points. The divers as a while scored 88 points alone.
Later in the evening, the 200-medley relay comprised of
Imogen Watson,
Wiktoria Samula,
Josien Wijkhuijs and
Jamie Reynolds, finished fourth overall with a time of 1:39.90 and add 52 points to the Pack.
Tomorrow the Championship continues with a loaded schedule beginning at 9:00 a.m. PT with the prelims for the 500-yard freestyle.
