RENO, Nev. – With aspirations to take back the conference title, the Nevada swimming and diving team is set to compete at the Mountain West Championship Feb. 20-23 in Minneapolis, Minn. The Wolf Pack has been training and preparing for the conference meet since its last time in the pool, when Nevada took down New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM almost three weeks ago.
On top of taking down the Lobos 154-144, the Wolf Pack came out strong against New Mexico, where the team was primarily lead by collegiate debuts for freshman and mid-year transfers.
Josien Wijkhuijs claimed the top spot in the 100 back in 56.91 and the 100 fly with a time of 55.92. Another newcomer,
Mikayla Dance came in third in the 200 breaststroke, while
Wiktoria Samula's collegiate debut won the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.86 and finished second in the 100 breast in 1:02.69.
The Pack also took the 3-meter event, courtesy of newcomer
Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez who went on to collect her first MW Diver of the Week accolade.
Nevada currently has at least one member of the team in the top 10 of every event not only that but nine swimmers are in the top 5 of their respective events including junior
Andressa Cholodovskis who leads the Mountain West in the 200 free and 200 IM. On top of the individual rankings the Pack has a top five relay squad in all five relays.
The 400 free relay, the 800 free relay and the 400 medley relay currently lead all Mountain West times. Cholodovskis is on all three teams. Joining her is
Caitlyn Richardson,
Jamie Reynolds and
Rebecca Murray; who all compete in at least two other relays. The 200 free relay is ranked third while the 200 medley relay is second.
