RENO, Nev. - The Nevada softball team (1-1) continues its season with a plane ride east to Houston, Texas to participate in the Houston Classic. This is the second tournament of the season and the furthest away the Pack will be from home (1,894 miles).
Fans will have the ability to follow along with live stats and live video for the Houston game. To keep up with the Pack be sure to follow the team on all of its social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
Last weekend, Nevada was in Sacramento, Calif. and Davis, Calif. competing in the NorCal Kickoff. The rain and field conditions were the largest roadblock forcing the Pack to delay and cancel two match ups over the weekend.
The first game for the Pack was against Santa Clara which saw Nevada come out on top, 6-4 behind the bats of
Ashley Salausa and
Sadaria McAlister. Freshman pitcher
Kendall Fritz recorded seven strikeouts in her collegiate debut and returned the next day in relief for
Kali Sargent and claimed seven more.
After many delays and rearranging of plans, the Pack squared off with Sacramento State in an afternoon contest on Saturday that saw Nevada fall in five innings. However, the Pack is looking to bounce back this weekend with good weather in the forecast.
Looking at the field for the weekend, the Pack has met three of the four teams at least once in school history. Nevada holds the series against the Colonels of Nicholls State, 1-0 but the other two teams, Houston and Maryland hold a slim lead in the series with the Cougars up 1-0 and the Terrapins up 3-0. This will be the first meeting between Nevada the Louisiana-Monroe.
Following this tournament, the Pack heads back west to Stockton, Calif. to compete in the Libby Matson tournament.
