Nevada welcomes San José State and Air Force to Virginia Street Gym

RENO, Nev. - The Nevada volleyball team is on a roll, picking up three straight Mountain West wins over San Diego State, Boise State and Utah State. Last week the Pack topped the Broncos on the road, 3-1, for the first time since 2016 and then swept the Aggies of Utah State, 3-0. 

This week the Wolf Pack is back in Virginia Street Gym and is ready to host four straight teams beginning with the Spartans of San José State (5-10, 0-4) on Tuesday, Oct. 6th at 6 pm. The game has been picked up by Stadium so fans can not only enjoy the match online with the Mountain West Network, but also on Stadium. Following this match against the Spartans, Air Force (4-12, 1-3) comes to Reno for the first meeting between the two teams this season, on Thursday at 6pm. 

Several members of the Pack recorded career and season highs this past week. Sophomore outside hitter, Kili Robins had a career match against Boise State notching 18 kills with only six errors leading with a team high hitting percentage of .353. Kayla Afoa recorded her 10th double-double of the season while Dalyn Burns had her seventh. 

Mandalay Rennon has been a force behind the service line, recording 20 service aces this season which is second in the Mountain West, just one behind Fresno State. Kaila Spevak has also recorded double-digit aces this season with 18. 

As a team, Nevada has remained strong on defense, holding opponents to a sub .160 hitting percentage while recording 144 total blocks. The team also leads the Mountain West in digs, being the first to over 1,000 with 1,008. Most recently, the Pack kept Utah State to just 25 kills in the match where the Pack put up 50. 

This will be the second week in a row that Nevada is set to matchup with the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week. This week, San José State had Sarah Smevog named after averaging 6.11 digs in the last two matches for the Spartans. The sophomore libero had 20 digs against Boise State and 35 against Utah State. 

Air Force is coming off a tough week after losses to Wyoming and #16 Colorado State but has a variety player in Bailey Keith who leads the team in kills with 161 and also leads in total blocks on defense with 35. Alex King, a junior libero, leads the team in digs with 273. 

Again both of these matches with be on the Mountain West Network while the San José State match will be carried on Stadium as well. Both matches begin at 6pm and live stats are available through nevadawolfpack.com/volleyballls.
