Cross Country receives votes in USTFCCA National Poll

First time receiving national votes since 2003

RENO, Nev.  – The Wolf Pack cross country team received two votes in the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches National Poll today. The last time the team received any national votes was the final week of the 2003 season, after being ranked 27 in week six and 28 in week five.

"Everyone is excited. It is fun to know that others are noticing our improvement," said head coach Kirk Elias. "But we also know that what really matters is what happens at the end of the season. We are working hard to be ready for when it counts."

The recognition is a result of the team finishing second in the University of San Francisco Invitational on Sept. 1. The field included three nationally ranked teams in Stanford, who won the race, the University of California who finished third and the University of San Francisco who finished fourth. California slid from number 20 in the preseason poll to 21 in this week's, while San Francisco fell out of the top 30.

Nevada returned its top five scorers from last year, with Lindsey Adams, Hiley Dobbs, Cora Gallop, Stefanie Ortega and Morgin Coonfield each competing in their junior season.

Next up for the Pack is a trip to Springfield, Ore. on Sept. 21 for the Dellinger Invitational, hosted by the University of Oregon, who came in at number four in the nation in this week's poll. The race is currently scheduled for a 10:30 start.
