Nevada heads to UNLV for intrastate rivalry series

RENO, Nev. – With Governor's Series points on the line, the Nevada softball team travels south to Las Vegas for a three-game series with UNLV April 27-29. Dating back to 2016, the Wolf Pack has won four of the past six contests between the two squads, which includes back-to-back series wins over the Rebels and the last meeting in Las Vegas.

Nevada heads into the weekend with a dynamic offense that has the capability to score runs in bunches, while UNLV possess one of the best pitching staffs in the conference. The Wolf Pack's offense ranks amongst the best in the nation, as does the Rebels' pitching squad with their 2.92 team ERA.

The Pack looks to bounce back after suffering its first series loss since the opening weekend of conference play. Despite losing the series, Nevada kept pace with Boise State as two of the three games with the Broncos went into extra innings.

Offensively, the Pack's offense was guided freshman Lauren Gutierrez who put together arguably the best weekend performance of the young career. Against the Broncos, the shortstop batted .750 with a home run, which helped her record a slugging percentage of 1.250 and an on base percentage of .778.

Sophomore Haley Burda continued her hot trend of late, extending her career-high hitting streak to seven games as she has now hit safely in 12 of her past 13 contests. The series against Boise State also saw Burda show off her defensive skills, throwing out a pair of Broncos in the series.

Fans can follow the three-game series through multiple outlets as every game will be streamed on NevadaWolfPack.TV. Live stats will also be available on NevadaWolfPack.com, as well as live updates on Twitter (@Nevada_Softball).

About UNLV
  • Possessing one of the best pitching staffs in the conference, UNLV enters this weekend looking to get back to .500 in conference play, having won three of its past four games, including a series win over Boise State.
  • In the circle, the Rebels hold arguably the best pitcher in the Moutain West as Janine Petmecky leads the league with her 15 wins on the season and ranks second in ERA (2.16). As a team, UNLV holds an ERA of 2.92, which is tops in the conference.
  • Petmecky also serves as a dual threat for the Rebels, as her 21 RBIs on the season is second-best on the team, and leads her squad with 129 at-bats on the year. Mia Trejo guides UNLV's offense with her .366 batting average.
  • The Rebels are led by their first-year head coach Kristie Fox, who could become the winningest first-year head coach in program history.

'B' Legendary
  • On March 22, Wolf Pack assistant coach Brianne Durfee (formerly McGowan) was inducted into the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) Hall of Fame for putting together what is considered one of the most successful careers in Nevada high school softball.
  • By the time she finished her four-year career at Wooster HS, Durfee's name was written all over the Nevada state record book as she finds herself scattered throughout the wins, strikeouts and ERA categories. Durfee led the Colts to four consecutive 4A state titles and was named the state's Gatorade Player of the Year in her junior and senior season.
