PHOENIX, Ariz. — Nevada (24-13, 6-4 MW) came up just short against No. 17/22 Grand Canyon on Thursday night, falling 4–3 at GCU Softball Stadium.
Grand Canyon (37–2, 10–0 MW) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Emily Gonzalez hit a solo home run.
Nevada struck in the third inning when Hannah DiGenova launched her 16th home run of the season, a solo shot to center that tied the game at 1–1. The Lopes responded quickly, scoring twice in the bottom half of the inning.
The Pack threatened throughout the night, collecting eight hits, including multi‑hit efforts from
Madison Clark, Katelyn Wetteland, and
Matlyn Leetch. Clark hit an RBI triple to make it 4–2, before Wetteland delivered a RBI single in the seventh to pull Nevada within one.

Tess Bumiller worked 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits.
Hailey McLean and
Ainsley Berlingeri combined for 3.1 innings of relief, holding the Lopes to one run the rest of the way.
Nevada will face GCU tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the second game of the series in Phoenix.
