RENO, Nev. - After having to cancel its trip to Sacramento State and the Hornet Invite and Multis due to weather, the Nevada Wolf Pack track & field squad will start its outdoor season Friday and Saturday at the Rainbow Relays, hosted by the University of Hawai'i.
Things will get underway Friday from Ching Field in Honolulu at 6 p.m. PT with the javelin. While Friday features mainly field events, Saturday will have a full state of events from 12 p.m. PT to 2:45 pm. PT. Live results can be found for the meet at NevadaWolfPack.com, but no live stream will be available. Nevada will compete against host Hawai'i and Mountain West foe San José State in a double dual format, pitting Nevada against each of the two teams in separate head-to-head competitions.
Senior Katia Coquis Lossio will be an athlete to watch this week. After taking silver in the javelin at the 2017 conference meet, the Barcelona native will go for gold in 2018. She'll throw Friday at 6 p.m. PT and look to start her final campaign strong.
Redshirt senior Leah Carter is back and ready to go after suffering a season-ending foot injury at the 2017 indoor championships. The high jumper was forced to bow out of competition at the Mountain West Championships and missed the entire outdoor season. She's set to high jump for the first time in more than a year Saturday at 8:30 p.m. PT.
The Wolf Pack will also be joined by several newcomers making their debut at the meet, including freshmen Alex Bohlman in the javelin, Gifty Nkansah in the sprints and Kayla Afoa in the long jump. Afoa joins the track & field from the Nevada volleyball team and will be a dual-sport athlete. Redshirt freshmen Tina Lao and Aaliyah Earl, both throwers, will also make their Wolf Pack debuts Saturday after getting into form last season.
