RENO, Nev.  – The Nevada women's cross country team is set for the Mountain West Conference Championships in San Diego, Calif. on Friday.

"The team is ready for a 'battle royale'. The Mountain West Championship will be a phenomenal race with 7-8 high quality teams vying for the top spots," said head coach
Kirk Elias. "The middle team places will be decided by very few points. The challenge is fun!"

The Wolf Pack was picked to finish fifth in the loaded 11-team field. In today's coaches poll, Nevada earned 56 points, putting them ahead of Colorado State and San Jose State.

The field will include some of the top teams in the nation, with Boise State coming in at two and New Mexico, the defending national and Mountain West champions, at three in the USTFCCCA's national poll. Utah State was ranked number 27 and Air Force received 13 votes in the poll as well.

Colorado State was ranked ninth in the Mountain Regional poll, with Nevada sitting in 10th and Wyoming at eleventh. San Jose State moved to 9th in the West Regional poll.

The University of New Mexico has won the conference in each of the last 10 years, including the individual champion in five of those years. The Lobos have also won the national championship in two of the last three years.

The race will begin at 9 a.m. at San Diego's Balboa Park. There will be an online broadcast, with the stream available through flotrack. Live results will be available as well, and can be found at nevadawolfpack.com/xcls
