Sophomore first baseman Dillan Shrum of the Nevada baseball team has been selected as the Nevada Student-Athlete of the Month. The El Cajon, Calif. native is majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry.

Shrum holds an impressive 3.79 GPA in his second year at the University of Nevada. The sophomore plans to attend medical school in the future.

In 2018, Shrum is batting .277 with 35 starts, primarily at first base. Showing off his power, the sophomore has smacked 12 doubles, two triples and three home runs.

The El Cajon native’s best game of his collegiate career came against San José State when he went 5-for-5 at the plate with a three-run homer in the fifth inning. He also hit a walk-off single on the rival UNLV Rebels in the bottom of the ninth at home on March 29.

The Wolf Pack currently sits at the top of the Mountain West standings with a 17-6 conference record. Shrum and the rest of Nevada baseball will play at UNLV with Governor’s Series points on the line, with the first game slated for 6:05 p.m. on Friday.
