Kathan highlights on day two of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships

CLOVIS, Calif. - Nevada Track and Field continued competition at the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Friday, highlighted by silver medals coming from Alma Kathan in the heptathlon and Kaja Maltaric in the long jump.

In the heptathlon, Alma Kathan led the Wolf Pack with a second-place overall finish, earning her first Mountain West medal in her second year with the Pack. Kathan totaled 5,414 points to score eight team points. Anne Schuch added a sixth-place finish with 4,984 points, contributing three team points. In day two's heptathlon events, Kathan placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.08 meters and added a fourth-place finish in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 35.47m before closing with a sixth-place finish in the 800m at 2:24.76. Schuch recorded a second-place finish in the javelin at 38.64m, placed 10th in the long jump with 5.35m, and finished ninth in the 800m with a time of 2:30.04.

In the long jump, Kaja Maltaric earned a runner-up finish and matched her indoor silver medal with a personal-best mark of 6.13 meters, scoring eight points for Nevada. Kathan added another scoring performance, placing fourth with a jump of 6.05m to bring in five points.

On the track, Annalies Kalma advanced through the 400m prelims with a fourth-place finish in 54.81, earning an qualifying spot for finals. Kylee Parsons also competed in the event, placing 11th with a personal-best time of 54.71. In the 100m prelims, Maggie George secured a qualifying position with an eighth-place finish, running 11.51.

In the 100m hurdles prelims, Misa Holland placed 15th with a time of 15.49. The 3000m steeplechase saw Natalie Roberts finish 16th, clocking 11:07.72.

In the pole vault, Alyssa Carson cleared 3.58 meters to place 15th, while Adessa Matthews recorded a no height.

Overall, Nevada sits at 42 points and will head into tomorrow's final day looking to creep further up the team standings, currently sitting in fourth.
