RENO, Nev. -Â Nevada wide receiver/punt returner
Marcus Bellon was named to the preseason watch list of the Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse Thursday morning.
The Paul Hornung Award is given annually by the Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) to the most versatile player in major college football. The Award was created by the LSC in January 2010 with the support of the Golden Boy himself, Paul Hornung, a native and lifelong resident of Louisville and member of the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame.
For Bellon, it continues an offseason of recognition. Along with being voted to the Preseason All-Mountain West Team at punt returner by conference media members ahead of the July 16-17 Media Days, Bellon was previously named to Athlon Sports' First Team as a punt returner and Second Team as wide receiver, and to Phil Steele's Second Team at each position.
Bellon had a big debut season for Nevada in 2024, demonstrating his versatility by finishing third on the team in receptions (39) and receiving yards (522), and tying for second in touchdown catches (four) while rushing for 37 yards on nine carries. He also completed 1-of-2 passes, with the completion going for 44 yards and a touchdown at Boise State.
A 2022 All-C-USA Honorable Mention on special teams who averaged nearly six yards per punt return and took one for a touchdown while with UTEP, Bellon was already avoided by opponents in his debut Wolf Pack season. With the Wolf Pack, he averaged 8.2 yards over just nine return opportunities with a long of 32 in the season opener against SMU.
Finalists for the 2025 Paul Hornung Award will be announced Nov. 6, with the winner announced Dec. 11.
