2025 Nevada Football Team Captains
QB Chubba Purdy
Purdy is set to take the reins of the Nevada offense in 2025, after appearing in seven games with one start for the Wolf Pack a season ago. The dual-threat quarterback went 13-for-18 for 155 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 41 yards in the start at Hawai'i on Oct. 26, and for the season completed 72.0 percent of his passes.
Prior to his arrival in Reno, Purdy split four years at Florida State (2020-21) and Nebraska (2022-23). With the Huskers, he appeared in 12 games with four starts, throwing for 382 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 180 yards and another score for the Huskers in 2023. At Florida State (2020-21), he became just the fifth true freshman in FSU history to start at quarterback, passing for 181 yards and two scores in that start against N.C. State.
DL Thomas Witte
Witte, a member of the Wolf Pack from the start, will play his sixth season at Nevada in 2025. Named to the Athlon Sports 2025 Preseason All-Mountain West Third Team, Witte appeared in all 13 games in 2024 with 12 starts. An anchor of the defensive line, he finished the campaign with 34 tackles, 1.5 going for loss. Having started 24 of Nevada's past 25 games since 2023, Witte has posted 8.0 TFL with two fumble recoveries over the last three years.
OL Andrew Madrigal
At center, Madrigal has been an anchor of The Union, making 36 appearances including 33 starts for over the last three seasons. Starting all 12 games in 2023 and all 13 last year, Madrigal is one of the longest-tenured regulars on the Wolf Pack line.
S Murvin Kenion III
Kenion comes to Reno after stops at Sacramento State (2024), Idaho (2022-23), and City College of San Francisco (2021). Last season for the Hornets, he was one of just two defensive players to start all 12 games, finishing with 51 tackles, two interceptions, nine passes defended, and 1.5 tackles-for-loss. Over his two seasons at Idaho, he made four interceptions and broke up 20 passes.
Kenion earned preseason recognition this summer, being named to Phil Steele's Preseason All-Mountain West Third Team and to Athlon Sports' Fourth Team.
