Clovis, Calif. - Nevada kicked off day two of the Mountain West Outdoor Championships today in Clovis, California.
The heptathlon continued Friday with long jump the first event of the day.
Alma Kathan was the best performer for the Pack, placing fourth with a jump of 5.71m.
Johanna Haas kept her medal chances alive, jumping 5.68m on her third and final jump of the event to place fifth. Valeria Paez-Rueda placed ninth with a jump of 5.31m.
Javelin followed next, where Valeria Paez-Rueda placed fourth with a throw of 35.68m and
Alma Kathan placed eighth with a throw of 30.82m.
Johanna Haas took out the event, throwing 42.15m, putting her first in the heptathlon going into the final event.
The final event of the heptathlon was the 800m,
Johanna Haas ran a 2:27.88 to place eighth, ultimately placing her second in the heptathlon on 5473 points, winning silver and taking home eight points for the Wolf Pack. Valeria Paez-Rueda placed fifth on 4963 points, adding three points to the Nevada team tally, while
Alma Kathan placed ninth on a personal best 4717 points.
In the individual events, Alyssa Carson competed in the pole vault but recorded no height.
In the women's long jump, Kaja Maltaric placed tenth overall with a jump of 5.81m, while Alma Kathan followed in 16th with a jump of 5.62m
In the 100-meter hurdles, Misa Holland finished 12th at 14.43, followed closely by Johanna Haas in 13th at 14.44, and Savana Chalmers in 22nd with a time of 15.29 seconds.
Madelyn Shipman ran in the 1500 meters and placed 19th with a time of 4:32.89.
In the 400-meter dash preliminaries, Annalies Kalma placed fourth with a time of 53.96 qualifying for tomorrow's final, Kylee Parsons finished tenth at 55.39 and Jasmine placed 18th with a time of 57.65.
During the 100-meter dash prelims, Magdalene George qualified for the final with a fourth place finish and a personal-best time of 11.49, while Vivian Groppe placed 13th at 11.92 seconds.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Natalia Martino was the top Nevada finisher in seventh with a time of 10:31.54. She was followed by Paulina Hultberg, who finished 12th in 11:00.07, and Natalie Roberts, who took fourteenth with a time of 11:16.62.
The Pack will be back in action for some jumps, finals and distance tomorrow for the final day of the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, Nevada sits in fourth on 32 points heading into the final day.
