Jenkins claims historic Player of the Week honor

RENO, Nev. – Nevada Softball senior Aaliyah Jenkins became the first player since 2005 to win four Mountain West Player of the Week awards in a season. Jenkins once again broke her own Nevada record for Player of the Week awards in a season. She is the first player in conference history to win four Player of the Week awards in a five-week span.
 
Jenkins put up mind shattering numbers in the Pack's series win over Utah State, hitting seven-for-nine (.778) against the Aggies, with a .846 on-base percentage and 1.333 slugging percentage. Jenkins scored nine runs and drove in four herself while walking four times and stealing four bases.
 
The Tracy, Calif. native started off her week with a homer in her two-for-three performance in the Pack's 8-7 comeback victory over Utah State. Jenkins reached base four times with a pair of walks, stealing a base and scoring three times in Thursday's win.
 
In Friday's historic offensive outburst, Jenkins recorded her first career four-hit game and first career five-on-base game. Jenkins finished Friday four-for-four with a double, a walk, two stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Jenkins's double was her 200th career hit, where she became the eighth player in Wolf Pack history to record 200 career hits. She also became the first active DI softball player to reach each of the following marks: 200 games played, 150 runs scored, 200 hits, 50 home runs, 150 RBI, and 50 stolen bases.
 
Jenkins finished her weekend with a double, a walk, two runs scored, and a stolen base in Pack's series finale against the Aggies.
 
In program history, Jenkins now ranks: first in home runs (50), RBI (182), and slugging percentage (.700); second in runs scored (157), total bases (415), walks (88), and stolen bases (76); fourth in doubles (48), sixth in on-base percentage (.435), seventh in hits (201), and eighth in batting average (.339).
 
Nevada travels to Albuquerque to take on the New Mexico Lobos for a three-game set starting Friday at 4 p.m. PT. Games two and three are scheduled for 1 p.m. PT and 11 a.m. PT on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Nevada sits atop the Mountain West with 0.5 game lead over San Diego State and Fresno State. The Pack looks to extend its lead at the top of the league with the Aztecs idle in conference play and the Bulldogs at Colorado State.
