Nevada falls to GCU in the CU1 Mountain West Championship

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RENO, Nev. — Nevada Softball put together a gritty effort on Championship Saturday at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park, but Grand Canyon claimed both games of the matchup, taking the opener 3–0 before edging the Wolf Pack 11–10 in a nine‑inning slugfest in the if-necessary game.

Grand Canyon 3, Nevada 0
Nevada's pitching kept the Pack within striking distance throughout the opener, but GCU's Oakley Vickers delivered a shutout to give the Lopes the early advantage.

Tess Bumiller and Ainsley Berlingeri combined to hold Grand Canyon to just five hits. Bumiller worked the first two innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while Berlingeri followed with four strong frames, striking out five and giving up only one run.

Offensively, Nevada generated five hits but couldn't break through with runners in scoring position. Madison Clark led the way with a 2-for-4 performance, while Matlyn Leetch added a double in the second.

GCU scored twice in the second and added an insurance run in the sixth to secure the 3–0 win.

Grand Canyon 11, Nevada 10 (9 innings)

The second game turned into an offensive marathon, with Nevada striking first. The Pack exploded for nine runs in the top of the first, sending 13 batters to the plate and forcing an early GCU pitching change. Madison Clark, Haylee Engelbrecht, Talia Tretton, Lexi O'Gorman, Matlyn Leetch, Karolyn Glover, and Rylie Haith all contributed to the outburst as Nevada seized a commanding 9–0 lead. Nevada set a new Mountain West Championship game record with scoring nine runs before the first out.

Grand Canyon, however, mounted a steady comeback, scoring in five innings and eventually tying the game with a four‑run seventh. Nevada briefly extended its lead in the fifth on Glover's solo home run, her sixth of the season, but the Lopes answered with late‑inning pressure and pushed across the winning run in the ninth.

Hannah Di Genova, Haylee Engelbrecht, and Hailey McLean each earned spots on the Mountain West All‑Tournament Team, highlighting Nevada's standout performers throughout championship weekend.
