Reno, Nev. - Christina M. Hixson Softball Park
RENO, Nev. — Nevada softball delivered one of the most significant wins in program history Friday afternoon, powering past No. 25 Grand Canyon in a 14–10 slugfest at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park to clinch a spot in the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship Game for the first time. The Wolf Pack erupted for 14 runs on 14 hits, overwhelming the nationally ranked Lopes in a top‑25 upset.
With the victory, Nevada advances to Saturday's Mountain West Championship Game, the program's first appearance since the tournament's reinstatement. The Pack will play either GCU or New Mexico at 12 p.m. tomorrow for the conference's automatic NCAA Tournament berth and the chance to cap a historic postseason run on their home field.
The Pack's offense struck early and never relented, scoring in six of seven innings, including a stretch of 11 runs across the first four frames.
Hannah Di Genova set the tone immediately, blasting a two‑out solo home run in the first inning, her 26th of the season. She finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Talia Tretton followed with a three‑run surge of her own, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a no‑doubt homer to open the third inning.
Nevada's lineup delivered production top to bottom.
Katie Wetteland scored three times and doubled,
Matlyn Leetch tripled and drove in three, and
Rylie Haith added a three‑run home run in the second inning.
Hailey McLean entered in relief and steadied the game, throwing 5.2 innings with 13 strikeouts to earn her 11th win of the season. Her ability to halt GCU's momentum allowed Nevada's offense to extend and protect its lead.
