RENO, Nev. — Nevada Softball freshman Katie Wetteland was named to the D1Softball Freshman All‑America Second Team, becoming the first Wolf Pack freshman to earn national All‑American recognition since the program's reinstatement in 2003. Wetteland was selected at third base on the Second Team, joining an elite group of the nation's top first‑year performers.
Wetteland delivered one of the most dominant freshman seasons in the country, starting in 53 games while hitting .400, posting a .490 on‑base percentage, and slugging .686. She finished the year with 70 hits, 49 RBI, 52 runs, 12 doubles, four triples, and 10 home runs. Wetteland's 1.176 OPS ranked fourth in the Mountain West, and she placed top‑five in the conference in batting average, on‑base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, runs, RBI, and triples.
The Rocklin, California native was a force from opening day, homering twice and recording nine total bases in her collegiate debut against Illinois. She went on to produce 23 multi‑hit games, including a stretch in early March where she hit .647 with 11 hits and seven RBI, a performance that earned her D1Softball Mid‑Major Freshman of the Week honors.
Her postseason résumé includes Mountain West Freshman of the Year, All‑Mountain West First Team, and NFCA All‑Mountain Region Second Team honors, solidifying her status as one of the most impactful newcomers in Division I softball.
Wetteland joins a national freshman class highlighted by first-team selections such as Oklahoma's Kai Minor and Florida's Townsen Thomas, and second-team honorees including Florida State's Anna Hinde and UCLA's Jolyna Lamar.
