Pacific Coast Doubles Championships runs ended in semifinals

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Nevada Men's Tennis duo Youssef Kadiri and Lucas Hammond grabbed two great victories on Saturday, defeating a second-seeded UCLA pair and Bucknell to advance to the semifinals of the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship.
 
Thursday
Axel Huysmans and Greg Valente opened the tournament for Nevada right after Nevada's dual match against Cal Poly. Huysmans and Valente paired up against former San Diego players, Dean Jackson and Andrew Carlisle in the play-in round. The Pack defeated the Torero alumni, 6-2, 6-4.

Friday
Youssef Kadiri and Lucas Hammond, seeded ninth, opened their tournament in the round of 64, defeating Derek Miller and Agustin Velotti, 6-3, 6-4. Kadiri and Hammond clinched a spot in the round of 16 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Villanova's Kush Anand and Evan Ancu. Kadiri and Hammond will face UCLA's Emon van Loben Sels and Aadarsh Tripathi. Kadiri and Hammond defeated van Loben Sels during the ITA West Sectional Championships, 6-4, 3-6, [10-6].
 
Huysmans and Valente continued their run with a second-round tiebreaker victory over Michael and Elijah Noel. Huysmans and Valente won 4-6, 7-6 (6), [10-7]. Their tournament concluded with a third-round loss to USC's Makk Peter and Tristan Bradley. The Pack duo pushed the Trojans to a tiebreaker, falling 4-6, 6-1, [10-7].
 
Paul Théate and Rayen Hermassi defeated Matthew Cariscia and Dylan Paterson, a pair of highly-rated high school seniors from the La Jolla/San Diego region, 6-3, 6-1. Georgtown's Burke Pablo and James O'Sullivan ended defeated Hermassi and Théate in the round of 64 in a tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-6 (2), [10-0].
 
Rémy Trégourès and Max Contet fell in their first match of the tournament, losing to Amar Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald of Bucknell, 6-1, 7-6 (4). Trégourès and Contet won their opening consolation draw match, defeating Andrew Lavine and Anthony Radogna, 8-4.

Saturday
Kadiri and Hammond squared off against UCLA's Emon van Loben Sels and Aardarsh Tripathi in the round of 16, Saturday morning. The Wolf Pack duo defeated the Bruins in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The victory marks the second time Kadiri and Hammond have defeated van Loben Sels this season, with the first coming at the ITA West Sectional Championships in the fall.
 
The duo's second match of the day saw the Pack face Adamantios Stavrakas and Oscar Bain Moreno De Vega from Bucknell. The Bison won the first set 6-4, putting the pressure on Nevada. Kadiri and Hammond responded with a pair of close-set victories, winning breaks at key moments. The Pack won the match, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
 
Kadiri and Hammond are set to face Lasse Poertner and Aleksa Pisaric from Pepperdine at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Waves have not lost a set throughout the tournament, picking up two seeded wins in the process.
 
Rémy Trégourès and Max Contet have made a run to the consolation bracket semifinal defeating Georgetown and San Diego State teams on Saturday. Trégourès and Contet started the day with a strong 6-3, 6-2 victory against Georgetown's Sahil Morey and Dean Rostom. They finished the day defeating the Aztecs' Mathieu Josserand and Georg Mandma, 6-4, 6-3. Trégourès and Contet will face the Blando twins in the semifinal at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Jayson and Michael Blando are one year removed from their collegiate career at Utah.
 
Nevada Tennis' long-standing volunteer coach Phil Frayssinoux paired with former California associate head coach Tyler Browne for the tournament, making the consolation quarterfinal. Frayssinoux opened the consolation draw defeating brothers Tanner and Colter Smith, former USC and Cal Poly players, 8-4. His run continued with a 7-6 (2), 6-3 win over James Krantz and Charles Qian of UC San Diego. Frayssinoux and Browne's run finished with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 loss to Cal Poly's Aaron Eliscu and Sean Ferguson.

Sunday
Kadiri and Hammond lost to seeded duo Lasse Poertner and Aleksa Pisaric of Pepperdine, 6-3, 6-2. The Waves continue their tournament streak, not losing a set through the draw.
 
Trégourès and Contet's run ended at the hands of the Blando brothers, twins that previously played at Utah. Michael and Jayson Blando won 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the consolation final.

Nevada heads to Sacramento next week for the Golden Gate Invitational. The Pack will open the weekend with New Mexico State on Friday at 9 a.m., followed quickly by Montana at 1 p.m. A 1 p.m. match against Hawai'i on Saturday will finish the trip for Nevada.
