RENO, Nev. - Nevada's
Greg Valente was named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week after clinching last Friday's 4-3 win over No. 65 GCU with a three-set comeback victory.
In what was a three-and-a-half hour marathon, the dual's outcome came down to Valente against GCU's Daniel Jankoski at No. 4. Nevada bounced back from dropping the doubles point, then a 3-2 deficit, to tie it up 3-3 and send all eyes to Court 4.
Valente came back after dropping the first set in a 9-7 tiebreaker, getting the upper hand late in the second set to even the match with a 6-4 decision.
Firmly in control of the match at that point, Valente found the extra gear and rolled in the third set for the 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-2 dual-clinching victory.
Nevada heads to Las Vegas this week for the 2026 Credit Union 1 Men's Tennis Championship, where the Wolf Pack opens play Wednesday at 1 p.m. against No. 1 Utah State.
