HOUSTON - Nevada Swimming and Diving shined on Day Two of the Phill Hansel Invitational, finishing the day in a solid third place in the team standings. The Wolf Pack's day was highlighted by junior
Scarlett Ferris bettering her previous school records in the 50 free and 100 back, including setting the Mountain West record in the latter.
Nevada's dominance in the prelims was clear, earning the top seed in five of the six events for the finals at night. Starting off the evening was the 200-Medley Relay where the Pack was represented by the team of Ferris,
Sara Mihalic,
Sally Vagg, and
Evie Floate. The team finished second overall in a season best of 1:38.91, marking the fifth-best time in school history.
The first individual event of the day was the 100 fly in which Nevada had strong showings from Ferris, Vagg,
Caitlin Wham, and
Evelyn Wood. Ferris and Vagg qualified for the A Final, Wham took home the win in the B Final, and Wood represented in the E Final.
The 400 IM brought great performances from
Isabelle Gomez in the C Final and
Moji Pholjamjumrus in the A Final. Moji captured the event win with a time of 4:10.97 which places her second in the Nevada all-time top 10 rankings.
Next was the 200 free where the Pack had great numbers with Keira Allott and Wham in the E Final, and Vagg and Huska Batbayar in the A Final. Batbayar was able to take home the win for the Pack with a final time of 1:46.66.
In the 100 breast, Floate and
Henley Kerr showed well for the Pack in the D and C Finals, respectively, where they both competed to season-best times.
Wrapping up the individual swims for the evening, Ferris and
Molly Von Seggern showed off for the Pack with two A Final swims in the 100 back. Ferris' time of 51.16 set new school and Mountain West records, bettering her own previous best in each record book.
On the boards,
Bailey Heydra once again represented well with a win on the 3-meter springboard. Freshman
Maggie Turpin had a wonderful performance in her first collegiate dive competition with a 14th-place finish in the event.Â
Wrapping up the evening, the Pack was seventh overall in the 800 free relay with the team of Pholjamjumrus, Allott, Floate, and Griner. The team finished with a season-best time.
With one day of competition remaining, the Wolf Pack swimmers are geared up to close out the meet on a high note. While Nevada divers will not compete in the Platform event, the team remains focused and ready to finish strong.
