Box Score RENO, Nev. – In an exhilarating five-set match, the Nevada Wolf Pack secured their first Mountain West Conference victory under head coach Wyckoff McNeal, defeating Wyoming 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 16-14) at the Virginia Street Gym. This win marked Nevada's fifth five-set victory of the season and the team's home opener.
Gabby McLaughlin led the charge with 22 kills setting a new career high. Bella Snyder contributed 13 kills and 3 crucial aces. Tehya Maeva orchestrated the offense with 24 assists and Sierra Bernard with 21. Kinsley Singleton led the defense with 19 digs.
The Wolf Pack came out strong in the first set, taking a 25-22 win despite Wyoming keeping the score close. The second set was a back-and-forth battle marred by missed serves from both sides, but Nevada couldn't capitalize and fell 20-25.
Set three was a turning point for the Wolf Pack, led by standout performances from Snyder and McKenna Dressel on the block. Snyder's block put her in the record books as the 10th most in Nevada Volleyball history. With a commanding lead at 17-10, a solid kill from Snyder made it 19-11, followed by an ace that extended the lead to 22-14. Nevada cruised to a 25-16 victory to take the set.
In the fourth set, despite a big ace from Laura Pacheco to pull within 12-14 and strong play from Snyder and Maeva, the Wolf Pack couldn't close out the set, dropping it 22-25.
The deciding fifth set was a thriller. A huge block by McLaughlin gave Nevada an early 3-0 lead, but Wyoming rallied to tie the score at 12-12. Chainey came through with a clutch block to tie it at 14-14. Snyder sealed the match with back-to-back aces, giving Nevada the 16-14 victory.
Nevada will be back in action on Saturday at noon when they take on Colorado State for Disney Day, followed by a Little Spikers clinic for kids ages 5-9.
